Mackenzie King, a 6'1 Middle Blocker and Pin Hitter from Burns, Oregon will be taking the court as a Lady Pronghorn this fall! The Burns High School graduate earned four varsity letters as a member of the volleyball team and as a member of the softball team. Throughout her high school career, Mackenzie put up a staggering 1,044 Kills, 120 Blocks, 679 Digs, 219 Aces, and maintained a .257 overall hitting percentage! With statistics like those, it comes as no surprise that King was named to the 2021 All-League First Team, 2021 First Team All-State, 2021 OSAA All-Tournament Team, 2022 Co-Player of the Year, 2022 OSAA First All-Tournament Team, 2023 All-State Honorable Mention, and Player of the Match for multiple matches throughout her career. King's drive and hard work made her a major contributor to the BHS Volleyball Team's success, leading them to be District Champions 2020-2023, OSAA Volleyball State Champions in 2020 & 2021, and OSAA State Runner-Ups in 2022! Along with being a multi-sport athlete for BHS, King was also a member of the Central Oregon Volleyball Club, Idaho One Volleyball Club, and the Burns Volleyball Club!
As a dual-sport athlete, Mackenzie was very accomplished and helped lead both teams she was a member of to multiple successful seasons. In addition to leading the BHS volleyball team to success, King also led the BHS Softball Team to a 3rd place finish in the 2021 Oregon State Tournament, to be District Champions in 2022 & 2023, and lead them to be the OSAA Softball State Champions in 2022 & 2023! As a first baseman, Mackenzie was named to the 2022 All-League Honorable Mention List and the 2023 All- League Second Team.
Not only did Mackenzie work hard on the court and field, but also in the classroom! On top of being a part of multiple sports/athletics clubs, King maintained a high GPA, was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), and was also a member of the National Honor Society (NHS). The incoming freshman plans on studying Athletic Training/Kinesiology during her time at Gillette College! When we asked Mackenzie about her decision to continue her athletic and academic career at Gillette College, she responded, "I chose Gillette College because it is a smaller college where I will be seen. Gillette also provides me with a good opportunity to get back into the rhythm of playing again!"
