Char Cranston comes to the Gillette Pronghorns as a transfer from Dakota Wesleyan University. The Moorcroft native will come in as an outside hitter and defensive specialist. Prior to college Cranston was a three-sport athlete. She lettered in basketball twice, volleyball all 4 years and track all four years. Her success started early in her athletic career when she earned all- conference in volleyball as a freshman. In her sophomore and junior year, she earned all-conference and all state for volleyball while earning all-conference in track and basketball. Come senior year Char was lettering and earning all-conference in all three sports, along with being all state in volleyball. In Char’s senior year of volleyball, she racked up 314 kills, 414 digs and 48 aces. She also helped in the team being able to place 3rd  in 2A Northeast Regional Volleyball and 4th place in state. This is impressive since it was the team's first time to state since 1987.

“We are lucky Char chose to come home to Wyoming and play with us this fall. She is a great student-athlete with a bright future ahead of her athletically, academically and in her future career as a nurse” said Coach Machin

Char Cranston stated “I chose Gillette College because it is closer to home, but still a decent distance away. My old college was 6 hours away, so it is nice to be closer. Gillette has a lot to offer for college kids, and the community is friendly. The volleyball coach is super nice and supportive, and I am excited to get to play for her and the first team here at the college! I have also heard good things about their nursing program, which I am so thankful to have been accepted into for the Fall of 2023!”

Not only is Cranston a great athlete, but she is also strong in academics. In her first year of college, she earned Dean’s list honors. In high school she maintained a 3.94 GPA, was on the honor roll all four years, was student of the month twice and graduated being ranked third in her class. While in high school Char was FFA president, FFA state degree, and an NHS member, class president, a student council member, and a 4-H member.

While at Gillette Cranston will study to be a nurse.
