Peyton High School Standout Abbie Nickell Signs with Gillette College Basketball Program
Gillette, WY - The Gillette College basketball team is proud to announce the signing of Abbie Nickell, a talented student-athlete from Peyton High School in Colorado Springs, CO. Nickell, a four-year letterwinner and standout player for the Panthers, will join the Pronghorns this fall.
Throughout her high school career, Nickell accumulated an impressive array of accolades on the court and in the classroom. A four-time All-Conference selection, she earned All-State honors multiple times in both volleyball and basketball. Her senior year, she led her team to a State Championship Runner-Up finish and was named to the CHSAA All-State 2nd Team in basketball.
Off the court, Nickell was equally impressive. A member of the National Honor Society (NHS) for three years, she served as both Vice President of her student council and President of her class. She was also a member of the Junior Class Council and earned Academic All-State honors.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Abbie to the Gillette College family," said Head Coach Lewis. "Her impressive resume speaks for itself, and we're excited to see her compete at the next level. Her strong work ethic and dedication to her education will make her a valuable addition to our team."
Nickell plans to study criminal justice at Gillette College and cited the program's reputation and small-town atmosphere as major factors in her decision to attend. "I went to high school in a small town and Gillette gives the same small town support system vibes that I cherished in Peyton. The coaching staff automatically made me feel welcomed and a part of something bigger when I came to visit. Aside from basketball, a huge reason I chose Gillette is because of the great Criminal Justice program they have to offer", said Nickell.
Joining the Pronghorns will mark a new chapter in Nickell's athletic career, which has seen her earn All-Conference honors in volleyball and basketball each year since her freshman season. Her senior year stats included 18.2 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, 3.8 blocks per game, and an impressive 81% free throw percentage.
