Pronghorns put up season high in points in 93-52 win over Dawson College

Gillette College scored a season high 93 points in a win over Dawson College at the Pronghorn Center on Thursday.

The defense started the game with two big steals that led to baskets for Gillette. Over the first seven minutes of the game, the Pronghorns held the Buccaneers to only 6 points, while Gillette had 21. The Pronghorns finished the first quarter with a 28-6 lead.

Dawson came out of the first quarter with a couple of big buckets to get the offense going, but Gillette quickly regrouped and took back control of the game.

 Alyssa Beckford led the Pronghorns in scoring with 25 points. She did most of her damage from the free-throw line, where she went 6-8. Beckford finished with a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds. Three other Pronghorns finished with double-digit points. Malena Edwards scored 17, Marija Marinkovic scored 14 and Jada Johnson scored 10.

After the first half, Gillette lead 46-24.

 The lead only grew in the second half, especially in the third quarter. Gillette's defense continued to lead the way with crucial steals that lead to points at the other end.

Qaizden Stephano and Dasani Nesbit both finished with four steals. Johnson and Edwards both had three.

Gillette continued to score efficiently with 26 points in the third quarter. Beckford hit two free throws late in the quarter to give Gillette a 32-point lead.

The final quarter slowed down offensively for both teams, but the Pronghorns were still able to add 21 points. The team hit a couple of 3s late in the game that pushed Gillette to a 41-point win. The game ended with Edwards hitting free throws to give Gillette its 93 points.

The Pronghorns will play against Miles Community College at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Pronghorn Center.
