Edwards Signs with Pronghorns

GILLETTE, WY, June 3, 2023 – Gillette College women's basketball coach Liz Lewis is pleased to announce the signing of 5'6" Malena Edwards for the 2023-24 season. The Melbourne, Australia native averaged 16.14 points per game during her high school career. Edwards played high school basketball for Coach Trevor Burnette at Box Hill Senior Secondary School where they finished at District Champions.

 "We are very excited for Malena to join our team this year. She is strong and knows how to use her strength to get to the rim and score. Malena has a love for the game and is prepared to work hard and make an immediate impact on our team and in the conference" stated Coach Lewis.  

Malena is the daughter of Rawiri and Sonia Edwards. Throughout her career, Malena has played point guard for her high school and many club teams. In 2022, Malena was the MVP for her Rep Club team, and played for the Victorian Junior Basketball League where she averaged 16 points per game. In the same year, Malena's AAU team finished second behind her 14 points per game and won 3 school tournaments. In 2018 and 2019, her team won Bronze in school nationals.

Edwards plans to study Elementary Education while attending Gillette College.

Malena on Gillette College: "I chose Gillette college because I saw the positive impact it did on Kobe (my cousin) and heard about how family oriented the community is and coming in from overseas I'm really excited to grow and overcome challenges with my new family."
