GILLETTE, WY, MAY 20, 2023 –The Gillette College Pronghorns are pleased to announce the signing of 6'0 Spanish guard Andrea Martin for the 2023-24 season. Andrea is from Madrid, Spain and attended high school at IES Antonio Lopez.
"Andrea is a great addition to our program." stated head coach Liz Lewis, "Her length and athleticism allows for her to be a tough matchup defensively as she can play at multiple levels in the offense."
Andrea played basketball for both Club Baloncesto Tres Cantos and Zentro Basket Madrid where she averaged 10ppg. In 2015 & 2016, Andrea led her team to third and first place in Madrid's "Dia del Mini". In 2018, Andrea won an award of best progression of the year, this award was chosen by her coach, Pablo Sanchez. In 2019, Club Baloncesto Tres Cantos made it to the Final Four and placed fourth in the women's Madrid league.
Lewis said, "Andrea works very well with her teammates and understands how to move without the ball. She is a very versatile player who will contribute on both ends of the floor. We are excited that she has chosen to attend Gillette College."
Andrea plans to study Business while attending Gillette College.
Martin on Gillette College: "I think one of the main reasons I chose Gillette College as my first option of going to the United States to play basketball is the certainty that I'm going to be very comfortable, based on my first impression of the coach, who seems really caring about her players and ambitious about this project, and also the security she transmits to me about the place. Also, another aspect that really turned my head towards choosing this college is the stories I have been told about other athletes-students that played in a Junior College, especially the ones who played in Wyoming. They've told me about the bond that is created between the players and the people and families from their Wyoming town, and I think it's very special and comforting to think I will have people supporting me when I'm at a place in which I don't know anyone, and the people I know are thousands of kilometers away from me."
