Gillette, WY – December 9, 2024– Gillette College women's basketball team went 1-2 over the weekend in the Holiday Inn Express tournament.
Rochelle Afo-Manuma delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 25 points with a shooting percentage of 69.2% against the Pioneers. Afo-Manuma also contributed significantly in rebounding, logging 9 rebounds and adding 2 assists.
Key contributions came from:
Marija Marinkovic: 8 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist
Arna Bright: 9 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists
Dasani Nesbit: 6 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists
Andrea Martin: 8 points, 3 rebounds
Second and Third Games
The momentum shifted in the following games, where the Pronghorns faced challenging opponents. In their second game against North Dakota School of Science, they fought hard but fell short with a final score of 80-76. Dasani Nesbit shined with 24 points and 6 rebounds, indicating her resilience and scoring ability, but ultimately the team couldn't overcome a slow start and first quarter deficit.
In the third game against Western Nebraska Community College, the Pronghorns faced another tough challenge, ending the night with a score of 70-52. Rochelle Afo-Manuma again led the charge with 18 points and 11 rebounds, showcasing her consistent performance throughout the tournament.
Despite the mixed results in the subsequent games, the spirit and dedication shown by the Gillette College women's basketball team have set a solid foundation for the season ahead. Coach Lewis noted, "This weekend was a great experience for us. We faced a nationally ranked opponent and a top team in our south conference. We needed this learning experience to continual to grow and improve. Winning and losing is part of the process. The team has shown tremendous growth and teamwork. We are proud of their efforts in this tournament."
